When aboveground and underground water in an area drains to a central location, then that area of land can be designated as a watershed. There is a total of 2,110 watersheds in the continental U.S. The Ohio Valley has 120 major watersheds.
Rivers
The Hocking River runs 102 miles and the Ohio River runs 981 miles. They are the two major rivers in the region.

WOUB-FM is a National Public Radio member station broadcasting at FM 91.3 in Athens, Ohio, from Ohio University. The radio station and website serves most of southern and southeastern Ohio, plus portions of neighboring West Virginia and Kentucky, through repeater stations.

Urban Areas
The largest county by population in the WOUB region of the Ohio Valley is Kanawha County, West Virginia. Kanawha includes Charleston, the state capital. With a 2010 census population of 193,063, it is the most populous county in West Virginia.
